West Ham 1 – 0 Sunderland: We couldn’t put the ball in the net

So when we are trying to hang on for our life’s on he bottom of the table, missed chances hurt so much worse.

West Ham managed to screw our defenders up it was pretty easy for them to score thanks to Patrick Van Aanholt’s defensive error made sure that we left empty handed on Sam’s return to West Ham.

After the break we made to great chances to make it level but no one could even manage a shot on target until the 71st minute in the game.

This game is an replica copy of the Manchester City game the other week, when we were our own enemies.

Defoe and Rodwell both had a few chances to score, both couldn’t find the net. Both player know that the mistakes at the stage of the competation can cost big if other teams win in the bottom of the league.

In the first 20 minutes of the first half was awful from a Sunderland point of view, yet Sunderland owe Vito Mannone to a stunning save for keeping the scoring line goalless at the time of the game.

After this effort at goal the game finally came alive with Hammers keeper Adrian fortunate to escape when he was caught doing kick-ups by Khazi, only for the Tunisian’s block to spin harmlessly away from goal.

In the 23rd minute Khazri curled in a free-kick from the right which had Adrian out smarted, but the ball bounced off the top of the crossbar.

The hammers finally went a head when Michail Antonia was able to get past PVA way to easy on the right-hand side from a botched clearance from Van Aanholt.

Defoe a chance to make the game level just two minutes after the break. Lee Cattermole’s ball over the top of the West Ham defence and with the goalkeeper to beat Defoe sends the ball wide of the post.

We began the second half much better than the first half of the game.

Substitute Rodwell then spurned a golden chance to level in the 74th minute after a brilliant pass from the impressive Jan Kirchhoff picked out DeAndre Yedlin in behind the Hammers defence.

Yedlin pulled it back for Rodwell, 12 yards out, but his shot was saved by the legs of Adrian.

Moments later, Sunderland were saved by the woodwork for the second time at the other end of the pitch.

Rodwell had another clear-cut opportunity in the 79th minute after Khazri’s cross wasn’t properly dealt with by Byram.

The ball fell invitingly to Rodwell, but his shot was deflected over the top after an excellent recovery tackle from Byram.

Seconds later, Dame N’Doye drew a save out of Adrian after his low effort from the far left-hand side of the area was pushed away by the keeper, with Sunderland unable to make anything of the rebound.
